Lactic Acid chemical peels are part of the AHA (Alpha Hydroxy Acids) and are very similar to a Glycolic Acid. One of the main differences between the two is that Lactic Acid can be used more often on the skin than Glycolic. The percentage I use can be used once or twice a week with results showing almost immediately.
Lactic Acid peels are a great choice for those who have never had a peel before. They work best on dry, combination, and especially sensative skin. It also delivers a higher percentage of active ingredients to generate your skins renewal process. Lactic Acid causes a break down of the skin's dead skin cells and build-up which in turn creates the skin to increase collagen production. This also aids in better absorbtion into the skin with other skin care products which can penetrate through more layers of the epidermis.
I know some people feel uneasy when they hear chemical, acid, and peel all in the same setence but I assure you that the acid peels I use have little to no down time. In most cases you can resume your normal skin care regimen within 12- 24 hours. But I cannot stress eonugh the importance of staying out of direct sunlight before and after receiving a peel or microdermabrasion treatment. The skin is very sensative and I highly urge all my clients to use sunscreen (at least SPF30) everyday as part of their daily routine. If you would like a great product that doesn't feel heavy on the face I sell a professional grade, specifically for the face, for $20.
